ABSTRACT

In December 2019, an outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus occurred in China. In March 2020, the World Health Organization announced a global pandemic of SARS-CoV-2. Today, in the era of the pandemic, people are trying to find affordable ways to recover. The authors of the article reveal the effects of coumycotherapy after a new coronavirus infection with COVID-19.

Keywords: koumiss, quality of life, COVID-19.

Koumiss (from Turkic, Bask. kymyz) is a whitish fermented milk drink made from mare's milk, obtained as a result of lactic acid and alcoholic fermentation with the help of Bulgarian and acidophilic lactic acid sticks and yeast. The benefits of koumiss have been a research topic for more than one hundred years. Bashkirs in the summer could drink up to 10-15 liters of koumiss a day. It was believed that such a drink refreshes, tones, gives strength, heals from diseases and strengthens the body. The first kumysolechebnitsy appeared in the XIX century on the territory of Bashkortostan. Kumys is the national brand of Bashkortostan. Much attention is paid to its production [3,5]. In 2020, the Head of the Republic Radiy Khabirov instructed to analyze the possibilities of using this drink in the treatment of COVID-19. Studying this issue will help to find an affordable way to restore health in the era of a pandemic.

The aim of the work is to study the effect of koumiss on the health of people who have undergone COVID-19.

Working hypothesis: koumiss will have a positive effect on the human body during the recovery process after COVID-19.

Subject of the study: the effect of koumiss on the health of people who have undergone COVID-19.

Practical significance: development of an affordable way to restore health after COVID-19 at home.

Scientific novelty: At the moment, reliable information on the rehabilitation of patients with COVID-19 is not enough. This disease is new, and the traditional way of obtaining information from previously performed scientific research is ineffective, because the experience of treating these patients is not significant in time [1,2,4]. For the first time, we are investigating the effectiveness of coumycotherapy in restoring health after COVID-19 at home.

Materials and methods: The work was carried out in 2020-2022. Statistical data are collected by online survey of the subjects. A total of 100 people who have suffered a new coronavirus infection COVID-19 were interviewed. The study included individuals who had suffered a new coronavirus infection COVID-19, with persistent health abnormalities, continuing to be treated at home. Criteria for not being included in the study: acute period of COVID-19 disease and age up to 18 years. The subjects were divided into two equivalent groups, comparable in terms of the main indicators studied. The main group (MG) (n=50) took koumiss daily for 1 month at home at 150.0-200.0 g. 2-3 r / day. The comparison group (CG) (n=50) did not drink koumiss. All the subjects were evaluated three times according to tests and scales: at the start, after 4 and 6 weeks. The study participants independently filled out questionnaires containing the main complaints, anthropometric indicators, questions from the Quality of life questionnaire (EQ-5D) and the hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). For statistical data processing, an Excel program was used with the calculation of the error according to the Student's criterion.

Results and discussion: The subjects aged 20-80 years (average age – 42,1±13,6 years) are residents of the Russian Federation, most of whom are women (66%). According to social status, workers slightly prevailed (53%). At the start of the study, all subjects complained of coughing, most of them of shortness of breath (90%), headache (88%) and insomnia (48%). Changes in clinical and psychological indicators were revealed in all study participants during the initial survey. Many had hypertension (71%), overweight (65%), diabetes mellitus (49%) and tachycardia (42%). During evaluation testing at the start of the study, shifts in indicators of psycho-emotional status according to the hospital anxiety and depression scale HADS and a low level of quality of life according to the EQ-5D questionnaire were revealed in all subjects.

A retrospective analysis of the results of our study revealed positive changes in all the studied parameters in all participants after 4 weeks, more pronounced in the main group who took daily koumiss (Table 1).

At the last test of the subjects (after 6 weeks), the positive dynamics of indicators in the main group was significantly higher than in the comparison group. By the end of the study, complaints had completely disappeared in those taking koumiss, and complaints remained in 11% of patients in the comparison group.

Testing on the quality of life questionnaire and the hospital scale of anxiety and depression revealed a significant improvement in all indicators after 4 weeks on the background of coumycotherapy, maintaining this trend after 6 weeks. In the comparison group, by the end of the study, the indicators remained at the level of values reached after 4 weeks.

Conclusions: Our working hypothesis that taking koumiss will have a positive effect on the human body in the recovery process after COVID-19 has been confirmed: a significant disappearance of complaints was revealed with a significant improvement in the quality of life and components of patients' health.
